Additional candidates file for local seats; deadline is Aug. 6
Filing continues for seats on the Lindsay City Council and various local school boards and other agencies with a deadline of August 6. In any case where incumbents do not file for reelection, the filing deadline will be extended to August 11.
A complete list of seats up for election has previously been published. This update covers the report of the Tulare County Elections office as of July 29.
Specific seats which up for election include:
Lindsay City Council — Council seats currently occupied by Daniel Salinas and Suzi Picaso-Gonzalez. No one has yet filed for election.
Sierra View Local Hospital District — Board of Directors seats currently held by Ashok Behl and Jeanine M. Hetherington; both incumbents have already filed for reelection, along with challenger Kent M. Sorrels, a retired microbiologist.
Lindsay Hospital District — Board of Directors seat held by LaWanda Wollenman who has filed for reelection. A challenger, Guadalupe Tony Alfaro, has also filed.
Springville Memorial District — One non-veteran Board of Directors seat currently held by Jerry McCleary and one veteran Board of Directors seat currently held by Perry G. Patterson. Both have filed for reelection.
Tulare County Board of Education
Area 4, seat currently held by Scot B. Townsend. Represents all the area embraced in the following school districts: Allensworth, Alpaugh Unified, Columbine, Earlimart, Farmersville Unified, Lindsay Unified, Outside Creek, Pixley, Richgrove, Rockford, Saucelito, Sundale Union, Sunnyside Union, and Terra Bella Union.
Area 2, short term seat currently held by Roderic James Burkett who was appointed in lieu of an election. Represents all the area embraced in the following school districts: Burton, Exeter Union, Sequoia Union, Strathmore Union, Three Rivers Union, Woodlake Union, a portion of Visalia Unified and a portion of Porterville Unified. Burkett has not yet filed for election; however, Deborah Lynn Holguin has filed for the seat.
Kern Community College District
Area 5, seat currently held by John Corkins, representing the Porterville College service area of the district.
School Boards
Alta Vista Elementary School District
Seats up for election include those currently held by Lee Ellen Behrens, Sheena Williams and Edward Gene Williams. Williams has filed for reelection.
Burton Elementary School District
Up for election are seats held by Phillip Giannetto, Devin L. Wilson and Eddie E. Hernandez. All have filed for reelection. Also filing is Jay L. Rice, a correctional officer.
Citrus South Tule Elementary School District
Seats up for election include those held by Mary Ann Higgins, Kenneth Harold Bell and Regis T. Olshevsky. No one has filed for election.
Ducor Union Elementary School District
Up for election are seats held by Allen Morris Hunsaker, Roman Dowling and Mara T. Santoyo. No one has filed for election.
Hot Springs Elementary School District
Seats open include those held by Tim Eugene Weatherly, Natalie Tschacher and Yolanda M. Chambers. Chambers has filed for re-election. Also a short-term seat currently held by John Samuel Baker who was appointed in lieu of election is open. According to the election office, Baker has filed for the full term seats, not the seat he currently occupies. Richard D. Howard, a retiree, has filed for the full term seat.
Lindsay Unified School District
Positions to be filled include seats held by Jan Miller, James Robison Williams Jr. and Anthony Vahnn Blue. All incumbents have filed for reelection; challengers are Mike Whitten, a pastor, and Guadalupe Tony Alfaro who did not indicate his occupation.
Linns Valley-Poso Flat School District (this school district straddles the Tulare-Kern county line in the Posey area)
Seats open include those held by incumbents Candace S. Dominguez, Richard Brewer and Roy Stephenson. Brewer has filed for reelection. Also a short term seat currently held by elected incumbent Karen Kay Brown is open. Also filing in Tulare County was Jay Williams, a retiree, for the full term seat. Kern County residents will file with the Kern County elections office.
Pleasant View Elementary School District
Open are three seats currently held by Rusty Gobel, Alexander Garcia and Michael Smith. No candidates have filed.
Porterville Unified School District
Seats up for election include those currently held by David F. Itzenhauser, Richard L. Morris, Pete Lara Jr., and Gregory Francisco Gillett. Itzenhauser and Morris have filed for reelection.
Richgrove Elementary School District
Seats open are those currently held by Alexandria Guerrero, Maria Ochoa Pimentel and Marisela Lopez. Lopez and Guerrero have filed for reelection; also filing are challengers Andrea Santillano Carillo, Martha A. Martinez and Ivan Gallardo.
Rockford Elementary School District
Seats up for election include those occupied by David Edward Gisler and Ed Eisner. Both have filed for reelection. A challenger, Caron Borba, has also filed.
Saucelito Elementary School District
Open seats are those held by incumbents Larry Schieler and Joel M. Merritt. Schieler has filed for reelection.
Springville Union Elementary School District
Seats open are those held by Kenny D. Walker, Beatriz Hackett and William Paul Tuttle. All have filed for reelection.
Strathmore Union Elementary School District
Open seats include those held by Patty V. Crocker, Michael Noell and James E. Shropshire. Noell and Crocker have filed for reelection. Also filing is Miguel M. Guajardo, a small business owner.
Sunnyside Union Elementary School District
Seats up for election include those held by John Arthur Arnold, Kimberly A. Stepp and Duane Peter Hilty. Arnold and Stepp have filed for reelection. Also filing is Sylvia Guerrero, a park ranger.
Terra Bella Union Elementary School District
Up for election are seats currently held by David I. Lopez, Anthony Michael Giannetto and Virginia G. Jaggers. None have yet filed for reelection. However, Rafael Martinez, a receiving clerk, has filed.
Woodville Elementary School Board
Two regular terms and two short terms are up for election. According to the county elections office, these include seats currently held by Pedro Rico Martinez and Felipe Guerrero Jr. as well as seats which have been vacated due to resignations. Candidates filing so far include Monica Romero and Amanda Medina for the regular terms and Fabiola Guerrero for a short term seat. Medina also filed for a short-term seat.
