Spring Kids Fest Saturday at Veterans Park
Local children relishing their spring break now have a reason to jump out of bed Saturday morning.
From noon to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Veterans Park will be filled with carnival rides, a 100-foot tall slide, bounce houses, games, food, live entertainment and a long list of other diversions during the sixth annual Spring Kids Fest.
“It’s a wonderful event all ages can participate in,” said Amy Graybehl with the Porterville Parks and Leisure Services Department.
According to Graybehl, event organizers are hoping for a turnout of more than 1,000 children, possibly surpassing last year’s attendance of 1,105. As of Wednesday afternoon, roughly 250 wristbands that grant children unlimited rides at the event had been sold.
“It’s a family event and it’s a great time to spend time with the community and enjoy time in the sun,” she said.
New this year is medieval jousting and several new bounce houses. There will also be a rock-climbing wall, obstacle course, toddler play area, trackless-train rides, air-brush tattoos, informational booths and more surprises.
The E&M Reptile Family will also provide children with an opportunity to get acquainted with bugs, frogs, lizards, turtles, snakes and other dry, scaly creatures in a hands-on show scheduled for 2 p.m.
The event is geared toward children between 2 and 12 years of age.
Though admission to the park is free, children must have a wristband to participate in the activities. The public is encouraged to purchase wristbands in advance for $3 at the Heritage Center, 256 E. Orange Ave. The center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today and Friday. Wristbands can also be purchased for $5 the day of the event.
This year’s event is sponsored by the Pizza Factory, Porterville Breakfast Lions, Porterville Women’s Medical Associates and Carroll’s Tire Warehouse.
