Step Up block party is Saturday
The community is invited to attend the first Step Up neighborhood resource block party of the year.
The free event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Doree Street and Mohoff Court, just east of the Porterville Municipal Golf Course.
Several informational booths will be available, including Parents on a Mission — a parent-leadership program, various health care providers, employment and education opportunities, neighborhood and home safety and more.
Those in attendance will have the opportunity to meet local faith-based organizations as well as representatives from the Porterville City Council, Tulare County Board of Supervisors and local schools.
Step Up is an effort of cities, Tulare County and individuals to help children and families stay away from gangs and trouble.
A free barbecue lunch, drinks and family activities such as a cake walk, will be provided.
Several prizes, including two children’s bicycles, will also be raffled off.
The event is organized by the Coordinated Community Services Committee, a partnership between local law-enforcement personnel, community leaders, school administrators, pastors and concerned citizens.
