Annual Food for Fines runs through Dec. 22
It’s time to balance out those overdue book fees with canned goods.
For every non-perishable food item submitted during the Porterville City Library’s sixth annual Food for Fines Drive, $1 of overdue fees will be waived, up to $10 per library card account.
The canned food and other items must not be damaged or expired.
The library’s goal is to collect enough food to contribute to the needs of the community. This year the library will partner with the Porterville Kiwanis Club, a nonprofit organization that coordinates an annual family food basket give-away.
The library benefits from the program by recovering lost library materials and from the clearing of fines on patron accounts.
Patrons who have library accounts that have been sent to collections cannot participate.
The drive will run trough Dec. 22. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and is located at 41 W. Thurman Ave.
