Man accused of assault, violating restraining order
A Porterville man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and violating his restraining order in the process has been arrested.
The incident happened at 10:34 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of North Henrahan Street. The Porterville Police Department reports that officers responded to reports of a disturbance. When they arrived, officers contacted a woman who said her ex-boyfriend, identified as 27-year-old Alonzo Ruiz, came to her home and began arguing with her.
Police said that during the argument, Ruiz allegedly assaulted the woman while holding her down to prevent her from escaping.
Their 6-year-old daughter was able to run out of the house and call for help, prompting Ruiz to flee, police said.
Officers later learned there was an active domestic violence restraining order against Ruiz.
At 1:49 a.m. Wednesday, officers went to a home in the 300 block of North Third Street where they found and arrested Ruiz without incident.
Ruiz was later booked into the Tulare County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence, false imprisonment, violating the restraining order, and for five misdemeanor arrests warrants.
