Pedro 'Pete' Martinez pulls resignation from agenda

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Before Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting began, City Councilman Pedro “Pete” Martinez pulled an item from the agenda that stated his intention to resign.

He was, however, absent from the regularly scheduled meeting.

According to City Manager John Lollis, the item, which called for the council to accept a letter of resignation from Martinez, was placed onto the agenda at the request of Martinez himself. Whether or not the same item will be continued to the next regularly scheduled meeting will be up to Martinez, Lollis said.

It is unclear whether Martinez actually intended to resign, as he told the Recorder late Friday night that he did not know why, or who, placed the item on the agenda.

He did not return phone calls Tuesday night.

Although earlier this year Martinez considered running for Fifth District Supervisor in the June 8 primary, he did not file the necessary paperwork with the Tulare County Registrar of voters by deadline on Friday evening.

According to his wife, Diane Oceguera-Martinez, the couple has rented a house in Woodville as they remodel their home in Porterville.
