Council to consider Leisure Department reorganization
City Manager John Lollis will outline the reorganization of the city’s Parks and Leisure Services Department before the City Council Tuesday night.
Lollis had announced he was changing the organization of the department in light of the retirement of Milt Stowe, former director, and plans to cut spending in the city.
The plans calls for a director, but the elimination of the Leisure Services superintendent, parks supervisor and secretary. There would be one new position created, that of Leisure Services Specialist.
Projected savings from the reorganization is $156,000 annually.
Donnie Moore is the interim Parks and Leisure Services Department director. Lollis had said a permanent director would be named after the reorganization was completed.
The council will also take a third look at the procedural handbook that was adopted three meetings ago, but brought back by two council members — Brian Ward and Greg Shelton — because they were both absent when it was approved.
Ward raised concerns at the last council meeting over rules governing the conduct of meetings, specifically how a vote and discussion would be handled on matters.
In other business the council will:
 Consider establishing a Local Community Event Support budget for council members.
 Consider approving the environmental impact study of the Jaye Street/Montgomery Avenue roundabout project.
 Consider approval of a 16-lot single family development at Clare Avenue and Lombardi Street.
