The Recorder's sister papers in Texas face Hurricane Dolly
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Storm rolls through our Rio Grande Valley newspaper group
SOUTH TEXAS - Sister newspapers to The Porterville Recorder covered the arrival of Hurricane Dolly on Wednesday, and are currently providing on-going reports. We've provided links to the various Texas newspapers below.
Due to widespread power outages caused by Hurricane Dolly, none of the Rio Grande Valley's five daily papers -- all of which were to be printed at The Monitor Wednesday night and Thursday morning -- will be delivered until Thursday afternoon.
The frequency of powerages through Wednesday evening and the expectation that they would continue well into Thursday morning at The Monitor's offices at Jackson and Nolana in McAllen made it impossible to sustain press operations, meaning The Monitor, The Brownsville Herald, Valley Morning Star, El Nuevo Heraldo and La Frontera could not be printed overnight for morning delivery.
Heavy rains flooded roads, downed power lines and knocked over trees across the Rio Grande Valley last night as Tropical Storm Dolly stalled about 50 miles southeast of Laredo.
Forecasters predict Dolly will dump 8 to 10 inches of rain on most of the Valley -- 20 in some isolated areas -- before it subsides. At 7 a.m., Dolly generated 50 mph winds as it slowly moved northeast. Winds are expected to gradually weaken as the storm moves inland. Dolly will probably become a tropical depression later today, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
