Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating Daryl Austin Young, accused of taking part in a standoff with deputies in January and now believed to be a transient staying in and around Porterville.

Young was first contacted during an investigation into a home invasion on Jan. 4. On that day, deputies from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 800 block of South Indiana Street and found Young standing at the home’s doorway, holding a small Luger-style handgun. The sheriff’s department said deputies maintained cover, eventually tasing Young.

As Young fell to the ground and deputies approached him, he fired a single round, striking a cabinet near the front entryway. A standoff ensued, with Young ultimately escaping through a rear window.

Young is to be considered armed and dangerous and citizens should call 911 and not try to detain him.
