Crime blotter 2/6/13

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It should be noted that only arrests are reported, and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Parolee Arrest / Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of West La Vida Lane regarding an unwanted subject. Upon arrival, officers contacted Michael Ortiz who was wanted by California State Parole and had a local felony warrant. Officers arrested Ortiz, who was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was later booked at the Porterville Substation.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to Kohl’s Department Store regarding a theft. The suspect, Lucas Aguire, was contacted. The Kohl’s loss prevention officer stated Aguire entered the store and went to the shoe aisle. He took a pair of Nike shoes and cut the security feature off of them using a cutting device. Aguire then put the shoes on and left the store. The property was recovered, and he was booked at the Porterville Substation.

Traffic Unit:

School enforcement was conducted in the area of Porterville High School for pedestrian violations and Westfield School for speed.
The Traffic Unit met with principals at Jim Maples Academy, Burton Middle and Burton Elementary regarding recent vehicle versus bicyclist collisions. All advised they would discuss the matter with staff, parents and students. Enforcement for such will be conducted in the next few days.

Robbery Suspects Arrested
Officers responded to Porterville High School to conduct further investigation into a robbery. A juvenile suspect was identified as one of the three subjects who assaulted the victim and stole his phone. Officers located the suspect and he was taken into custody. An additional juvenile suspect was identified as being involved in the robbery. Officers responded to the second suspect’s residence on South Jaye Street. The suspect was found hiding in the laundry room of the residence. Both suspects were both transported to the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility and booked. Further investigation is being conducted to identify the third suspect.

Arrest of Wanted Domestic Violence Suspect
Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of South Main Street regarding a verbal disturbance. When they arrived, they contacted Jay Eversole, 32, who was wanted for violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Eversole was arrested without incident and later booked at the substation.

Felony Warrant
Officers contacted Cody Cizek, 22, at Putnam Avenue and Prospect Street. Cizek had one misdemeanor and one felony warrant for his arrest. Cizek was arrested and booked at the substation.
