Porterville man died from gunshot wound to torso

Authorities on Monday released the name of the man killed Sunday in a Porterville-area homicide.

Samuel Silva, 19, of Porterville, was found dead in a driveway located near the intersection of Leggett Street and Orange Avenue.

Tulare County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 1:04 a.m. Sunday to the crime-scene location.

Upon arrival, it was determined Silva was dead, the Sheriff’s Department reports.

An autopsy was performed Monday. The cause of death was determined to be a penetrating gunshot wound to the upper torso, the Sheriff’s Department reports.
