Two teens die in crash

Two teenagers in a vehicle speeding away from a traffic stop were killed Monday night when their vehicle went out of control and crashed into a large tree near the Barn Theater on Plano Street.

The Porterville Police Department has not released the names of the two teens, a 15-year-old girl and an 18-year-old male. An 18-year-old female suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the crash occurred on Plano Street near Park Drive at 9:37 p.m.

According to police, the driver drove away from a traffic stop while an officer was arresting one of the occupants. Police said there was no pursuit. The vehicle rolled multiple times before striking the tree.

Police said alcohol may have been involved in the crash.
