Child struck by vehicle before parade
A 4-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was struck by a pickup in the Bank of America parking lot Monday 90 minutes before the Veterans Day parade began.
Police Chief Chuck McMillan said it did not appear the child was seriously injured, but he was taken by ambulance to the hospital. He was awake and crying while he was attended to by medical personnel.
Jeanette Markman, who witnessed the incident, said the boy was with his mother getting out of a van in the parking lot when he ran in front of the pickup. “He took off and was hit by the truck,” she said. “The impact was pretty hard.”
She said the mom had gotten the boy out and was helping another child out when he ran into front of the pickup.
