PORTERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It should be noted that only arrests are reported, and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Friday, Feb. 8, 2013
Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
Carl Barell, 32, was contacted in front of Westfield Elementary School. He was under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked at PPD.

Petty Theft
Officers responded to Walmart regarding a theft that just occurred. Juana Andrade, 38, was detained by loss prevention for shoplifting. The property was recovered and officers took custody of Andrade. She was booked at PPD.

Burglary
Officers responded to Walmart regarding a theft that just occurred. Suspect Denise Riggan, 45, had taken store merchandise and fled from the store. She was later located by officers and identified by loss prevention personnel from Walmart. The property was recovered and officers arrested Riggan for commercial burglary. She was transported to Bob Wiley Detention Facility.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
Officers contacted Gregorio Cisneros, 32, in the 600 block of North Sunnyside Street. He was under the influence of a controlled substance and was taken into custody. He was booked at PPD.

Public Intoxication
Officers contacted a 16-year-old at Orange Avenue and G Street. The juvenile displayed symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. During a search of the juvenile, officers located a small package with brand name of Mad Hatter. The substance was determined to be bath salts and the juvenile was taken into custody for public intoxication. He was later cited into the Juvenile Diversion Program and released into the custody of his parents.

Assault with Great Bodily Injury
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of West Date Avenue regarding a battery that just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, a 48-year-old male, lying on the ground with head trauma. Witnesses reported the victim was assaulted by three to five unknown subjects who fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The victim was air lifted to Fresno Regional Medical Center for his injuries. PPD Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Petty Theft
Officers responded to Town and Country Market regarding a theft that just occurred. Daneka Stephens, 31, had taken store merchandise and left the store. She was contacted by officers at Dameron Street and Olive Avenue and detained at that time. She was positively identified by store employees, and the property from the store was recovered. She was transported to PPD for booking.

Minor injury traffic collision
Officers responded to Summit Charter, Redwood Campus for a private property traffic collision. A volunteer of Burton School District exited his vehicle failing to place it in park. He tried to enter the vehicle as it rolled away and he was struck by the vehicle causing visible injury to his arm. The vehicle ultimately collided with a chain link fence on the campus and no other injuries were sustained.

Auto Theft
A 2006 Silver Honda Civic was stolen from the 800 block of West Mulberry Avenue. The victim reported she arrived at the residence, left the vehicle running and entered the residence to retrieve her child. While she was inside, she heard her vehicle leaving. A family member attempted to follow the vehicle, but lost sight of it southbound on Plano Street from Henderson Avenue.

Public Intoxication / Under Influence of Controlled Substance / Trespassing / False Information to Peace Officer
Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of South C Street in regard to a subject attempting to break in to the residence. Officers contacted Eric Campos inside the yard, and he was uncooperative answering questions. Campos falsely identified himself and was extremely under the influence of a controlled substance. The victim stated she heard noises at the rear of her residence that sounded like someone attempting to open her window. The victim said she saw Campos looking through storage bags in her backyard and told him to leave. The victim said Campos refused to leave and she telephoned the police department. Campos was booked at the Main Jail.

Sunday, Feb 9,  2013
Burglary
Officers responded to 1500 North Prospect Street regarding a residential burglary report. The victim reported that suspect(s) kicked in the back door to her residence and stole her 42” VIZIO television.

Warrant Arrest
Officers contacted a 17-year-old at a residence in the 200 block East Presidio Avenue. The juvenile had a no-bail warrant for his arrest. He was booked at the juvenile detention facility.

DUI
Police responded to Corona Drive and Park Street regarding a DUI traffic collision. Damaso Hernandez, 29, drove his vehicle off the roadway into a tree. He was the only occupant and there were no injuries. He was DUI and taken into custody. He was later transported to TCSO, where he was booked.

Stolen Vehicle Located
Officers responded to the 800 block of East Poplar Avenue regarding a recovered stolen vehicle from Lindsay. The vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Silverado, was located in the riverbed near the area.

Domestic Violence / False Imprisonment / Destroy a Phone Line
Officers were dispatched to the police department regarding a victim who reported her boyfriend, Santos Estorga, hit her at a residence on North 3rd Street. The victim reported she went to Santos’ residence and while she was there, he kept her from leaving. She attempted to call 911 with her cell phone, but Santos took the phone and broke it to prevent her from contacting the police. The victim said Santos threw her on the bed and bit her causing visible injury. Santos was contacted at his residence, arrested and booked at the substation.

Burglary
Officers were dispatched to St. Anne’s Catholic Church regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim reported that  suspect(s) entered her locked vehicle by breaking the front passenger window and stole her purse.

DUI
Officers were dispatched to the area of Olive Avenue and Mathew Street regarding a report of a possible DUI driver. Officers located the vehicle and a traffic stop was made at Olive Avenue and Prospect Street. Officers determined the driver, Joseph Acoba, 27, was under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and booked at PPD.
