DEPARTMENT
Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance


Officers responded to the 700 block West Morton Avenue regarding a battery report. Officers arrived and contacted Michael Carrillo, 25, who was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. The battery was determined to not have happened and determined to be a mutual argument between Carrillo and his sibling. Carrillo was arrested and booked.


Petty Theft


Officers responded to Valley Oak Community Church and met with the victim regarding a theft of a wheelchair ramp that was stolen from in front of the church.


Warrant Arrest


Officers were in the area of Morton Avenue and Hockett Street when Kevin Williams, 45, was contacted. Williams had a warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody.


Warrant Arrest


Danny Steely, 49, was observed in the area of Main Street and Putnam Avenue. A warrant check revealed Steely had a warrant for his arrest. Officers contacted Steely and he was arrested.


Burglary


Officers responded to Burger King regarding a report of possible embezzlement. The on-duty manager reported that when she entered the business this morning, she discovered a locked door inside of the business that leads to a safe was open. Further investigation determined that money was missing from the safe. Detectives took over the investigation and interviewed employees. The case remains under investigation.


Petty Theft


Officers responded to Town and Country Market regarding a woman detained for shoplifting. Officers contacted the suspect, Janet Pugh, 71, who admitted to concealing beer before leaving the store. She was contacted by security and detained. She was issued a citation for petty theft and released from the scene.


DUI on a Bicycle / Possess Drug Parapheranalia


Officers stopped a bicyclist riding on the wrong side of the road in traffic on Morton Avenue at Douglas Street. Marcos Valencia, 25, was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested.


Injury Traf.fic Collision


Officers responded to the hospital Emergency Department regarding an injury collision that occurred in the sub-100 block of East Grand Avenue. A 2-year-old child was able to free herself from the car seat and fell out of the window as the mother was pulling into the driveway of their residence. The rear tire then rolled over the child’s ankle. Both parents were evaluated and found to be sober. The child was treated and released with no broken bones. The child safety seat and vehicle were inspected and found to be in good order.


Burglary


Officers responded to Pioneer Middle School regarding a burglary. Upon arrival, school staff members were contacted and stated a classroom had been broken into through a window. A laptop computer was stolen. Physical evidence was located at the scene and further follow-up investigation will be conducted.


Battery


Officers responded to the 2000 block of West Memory Lane regarding a battery report. The victim stated he was in an argument with suspect Aaron Baugh, 23, when Baugh assaulted him. The victim stated Baugh struck him in the face with a closed fist and his knee. The victim suffered a cut lip and had cuts and bruises on the left side of his face. Baugh was taken into custody after a citizen’s arrest by the victim. Baugh was later released on a signed promise to appear in court.


Warrant Arrest


Officers contacted Michael Way, 61, at D Street and Thurman Avenue when Way almost walked into traffic. He was extremely intoxicated and had a warrant for his arrest. He was subsequently transported to TCSD Porterville Substation where he was booked.

Officers contacted Bruce Hernandez, 41, at Main Street and Cleveland Avenue. He was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested and booked.

Officers contacted Fernando Ortiz, 28,  at Laurel Street and Henderson Avenue. He was determined to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was taken into custody.


Auto Theft


Officers responded to the 300 block of East Henderson Avenue regarding a stolen vehicle report. The victim related suspect(s) took his Cadillac CTS, which was parked in front of his residence.


Burglary


Officers responded the 200 block of South Chess Terrace regarding a residential burglary report. The victim reported that suspect(s) forced the front door open to their detached studio apartment. A lap top computer, an iPad and an Android phone were taken from the apartment. Physical evidence was located at the scene and the case remains under investigation.
