Police identify pedestrian killed Saturday night
The 59-year-old Porterville man who was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a car while crossing Henderson Avenue has been identified as Francisco “Cosme” Martinez, the Porterville Police Department reported Tuesday.
Police say Martinez was walking north in the crosswalk at Second Street when he was hit by a westbound car being driven by 20-year-old David Stone of Porterville. Witnesses on scene reported the car was traveling about 30 mph when it hit Martinez, who was crossing Henderson Avenue in front of PortaVilla Market.
Porterville Police Officer Dominic Barteau said there were no indications that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
“The Major Accident Investigation Team investigated the collision and there were no indications of alcohol or drugs and so the case has been written up and will be submitted to the district attorney to review it for charges that they see fit,” Barteau said Tuesday.
Funeral services for Martinez will take place Nov. 18, with visitation between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. and rosary at 6 p.m. at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel, 195 N. Hockett St. Services will continue with a mass at 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church and will conclude with internment at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
