After taking the lead a week ago, Measure J — Porterville Unified School District’s $90 million general obligation bond — has slipped, reports Friday’s Tulare County’s updated summary report. The updated numbers show the measure with 8,672 Yes votes, or 50.10%, and 8,639 No votes, or 49.90%.

Though reaching a 51.06 percent approval on Nov. 9, up from the 48.62 percent support on election night, the ballot still falls short of the 55 percent approval rate needed to pass.

The county, however, is still counting ballots and has an approximate 10,000 provisional ballots to process and an approximate 1,000 duplicate ballots to sort.

Lindsay Unified’s Measure L widened its lead and now reports 1,252 Yes votes, or 57.06% and 942 No votes, or 42.94%.

There were no changes in the PUSD Board, Lindsay City Council or in the Sierra View District Hospital Board of Directors race.

The next update of the Summary Report will be Wednesday. The election office has 28 days to complete the count, with the results not final until the count is complete.
