Lindsay policemen to cross train skills

When: Starting Oct. 1

LINDSAY—To hasten response times and enlarge the department, Lindsay police officers will begin cross training how to respond to calls regarding fires, animal control and medical aid starting Oct. 1.

Chief Rich Wilkinson made the announcement at Tuesday’s regular city council meeting at City Hall.

“It won’t be uncommon for an officer to show up to a medical emergence call and perform the first treatments,” he said.

Training should be complete by Jan. 1, he added.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, an announcement made by Mayor Ed Murray that the city has formed a centennial committee to plan a “grand celebration” the weekend of Feb. 27 in recognition of the city’s 100th anniversary.

Council members Danny Salinas and Pamela Kimball will cochair the committee, while the remaining council members will serve as regular members alongside other community leaders.

“I encourage all entities to recognize 2010 as the city’s anniversary,” Murray said. “We have a lot to look forward to.”

The city council meets again at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 251 E. Honolulu St.
