Man fatally struck Sunday on Highway 190
A 58-year-old Porterville man was struck and killed by a car early Sunday on Highway 190.
Officers from the Porterville Police Department and medical personnel responded to the accident at 1:20 a.m. Sunday on Highway 190, east of Martin Street. When emergency personnel arrived, they found the man dead in the roadway.
The PPD Major Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Porterville police said the man had been walking in the middle of the slow lane of eastbound Highway 190, when he was struck by a car traveling in the same direction.
The driver of the car reportedly stopped to render aid and called 911.
Police said it was unknown why the man was walking on the highway.
The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of family.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor for the driver in the crash, police said.
