Man struck by vehicle named

The man fatally struck by a vehicle as he was trying to cross Highway 65 has been identified.
Daniel Eugene Mayes, 26 of Syracuse, N.Y., was killed about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Highway 65 and Pioneer Avenue.
According to Porterville Police, the man was running eastbound across all four lanes of the highway when he was struck by a vehicle that was northbound on the highway. The man appeared to have cleared three lanes of the highway before being struck. Crossing the highway at the location is prohibited.
He is the third pedestrian killed when struck by a vehicle in the city in the past three months and the fourth this year.
