3 die in head-on collision on Highway 65
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Three people are dead and three more are injured after a car crash Saturday on Highway 65.
Two Bakersfield women, 52 and 40 years old, were killed in the wreck. A 28-year-old Lamont man was also killed. Their names were not released.
Nancy Rodriguez, 31, and Luz Carillo, 34, both of Bakersfield, suffered moderate injuries. Femina Maceda, 45, of Bakersfield, suffered major injuries.
The accident occurred as Rodriguez was southbound at about 2:35 a.m. Saturday in a 1994 Chevrolet on Highway 65 south of Avenue 56, the California Highway Patrol reports.
Carillo, driving a 2002 Ford, was northbound on Highway 65 south of Avenue 56.
Rodriguez allowed her vehicle to cross over into the opposing lane of traffic directly into the path of Carillo, CHP reports. The vehicles collided head-on within the northbound lane of Highway 65, CHP reports.
Maceda, who was a passenger in Rodriguez’s car, survived. Rodriguez’s two other passengers died.
The lone passenger in Carillo’s vehicle was killed.
Carillo, Maceda and Rodriguez were transported to Sierra View District Hospital, CHP reports.
Highway 65 was closed for six hours while emergency personnel attended to the injured and investigated the collision, CHP reports.
