City seeing OHV Park grant

recorder@portervillerecorder.com

The Porterville Parks and Leisure Services Department is seeking public comment on a preliminary application for grant funds from the California State Parks Off‐Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division to operate the city’s Off Highway Vehicle Park.

The city is planning to submit applications for projects relating to the purposes of maintenance, operations and OHV law enforcement. The requested grant funds are to offset operational costs at the OHV Park and to reduce off‐highway vehicle use in unauthorized areas. Funding assistance from the state is critical for Porterville to continue to provide the opportunity for a safe and supervised recreational facility for dirt bike and ATV riders, said the city in a press release.

The preliminary application is due Monday, March 4. Public review and comment period begins March 5, ending on April 1. An electronic copy of the draft application may be viewed by visiting the California Off‐Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation website at http://olga.ohv.parks.ca.gov/egrams_ohmvr/user/home.aspx.

The public is invited to make comments on the public comment section of the state OHMVR website. The public comments will be reviewed and considerations will be made prior to submission of the final application, due May 6.
