Man accused of wielding knife at family member

Police arrested 25-year-old Dennis Gibbs of Porterville after responding to a call of a person who was out of control Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened just after 1 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of West Memory Lane. The Porterville Police Department said that when officers arrived, Gibbs was detained by family members.

Police said Gibbs was under the influence of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. They later learned he had also threatened a family member while wielding a knife.

Gibbs was also on state parole.

He was arrested and booked into the custody of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and for a parole hold.
