Mothers United Against Gang Violence workshop Sept. 29

PORTERVILLE

Mothers United Against Gang Violence will host speaker Jose Montenegro from the Los Angeles Gang Outreach Education Strategies and Training Ministries for a day-long workshop event, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at Victory Outreach Church, 129 N. D Street.

The day will start with an opening prayer and gospel music, followed by the Rev. Nestor Lambarena introducing the speakers. Montenegro will give the key-note talk, “How to Disengage from Gang Influence, Reach Those Who are Gang Affiliated, How to Stop The Violence Through Self-Control, Anger Management Skills and Walking Away” followed by Jeff Osbourne, who will give parents tips for coping with children struggling with substance abuse, rebellious attitudes, low self esteem, or low academic scores.

Lunch will be provided. A community forum will follow.
