The Porterville College Foundation has been awarded a $25,000 grant from Southern California Edison to go toward the Foundation’s Science, Math and Resource Technology Mobile Science Laboratory for elementary schools. The Foundation will award $50 scholarships totaling $1,000 to Tulare County low-income elementary school students for attendance to the summer camp.

Elementary school science teachers will identify the candidates for the scholarships.

The scholarship will help expand the Foundation’s Summer SMART Camp that integrates STEM-focused activities in learning environments outside the K-12 classroom. The mobile lab is utilized to demystify math and science so that all students feel the joy that follows understanding.

In addition, the Edison grant allows the foundation to award $500 and $1,000 scholarships totaling $24,000 to Porterville College continuing and transfer students with a declared Biological and Physical Science (AS-T or AA) or Math (AS-T) major.
