County Fair offers a multitude of options
“Let’s Go” is the theme of this year’s Tulare County Fair which features a bevy of food, entertainment and competitions.
The five-day event kicks off Wednesday in Tulare. It will offer a smorgasbord of options for area families including Monster Truck races, livestock judging, exhibits, entertainment and the carnival.
“There is a large variety of things to do at the fair and there’s something for everyone,” said Geoff Hinds, Tulare County Fair chief executive officer. Some of the options include musical acts like the Eli Young Band, Journey Unauthorized, Mixed Martial Arts and the carnival. The latter will feature over 70 attractions, food and a midway.
The fair runs Wednesday through Sunday on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Tulare.
The livestock show will commence on Wednesday with pre-show activities to take place on Tuesday.
The livestock grounds open Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. All animals, breeding and market, must be in place and ready to go by 4 p.m. today at which time the weigh-ins will begin.
Wednesday’s show will feature cows, cattle, hogs and goats. At 9 a.m. in ring one will be the 4-H Market Hogs and at 10 a.m. is 4-H dairy cattle showmanship.
At 10 a.m Thursday in ring one the 4-H Market Lambs will begin and at 4 p.m. is the 4-H Market Steers.
At 9:30 a.m, Saturday the junior livestock auction will begin — at noon the champions will be sold.
Other attractions at the fair include live entertainment by magician Frank Thurston, Chapparal, Branded Heart and a plethora of competitive exhibits including fine arts photography, floral arrangements, fruit competitions and student landscape plots.
On Sunday is the annual Destruction Derby in the grandstand area and Fiesta en la Feria on the Budweiser Stage.
The fair has an approximate $1.4 million budget and is sustained through proceeds, corporate sponsorships and private donations.
