American Legion charity event to benefit Hospice, military

American Legion Riders Chapter 20 will be having a charity event to benefit Hospice and the United States military. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1900 W. Olive St.

The group is collecting monetary donations, store gift cards and food items to benefit Hospice families in the Porterville area.

They are also collecting monetary donations to help with the cost of shipping care packages to military service men and women overseas, along with items for the packages including baby wipes, toiletries, hard candy, beef jerky, books, magazines, powdered drink mix, individually wrapped snack items, gloves, etc.

If interested in sending a care package to a loved one serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, send their name, rank, unit, APO address and amount of time left overseas to American Legion Riders Chapter 20, C/O Tom Hester, 31 N. Fir, Porterville, CA 93257.
