Woman arrested after abandoning vehicle
Beverly Franks, 32 of Porterville was arrested about 9 p.m. Thursday after officers responded to a possible drunk driver who reportedly abandoned a vehicle in the area of Morton Avenue and Plano Street.
Witnesses provided a description of the female driver and she was located walking in the 100 block of West Morton Avenue. An Officer contacted the driver, however, she became combative and struck the officer. Assisting officers arrived on scene and attempted to place Franks into custody who was resisting arrest.
During the incident, Franks bit one of the officers on the forearm. After a short struggle, Franks was taken into custody and transported to Bob Wiley Detention Facility where she was booked on charges Resisting Arrest and Felony Violence Against a Police Officer.
The officer was later treated at Sierra View District Hospital for the bite wound.
