Donor search could help save leukemia sufferer
The Be-the-Match Foundation will host a donor registration at 1 p.m. Sunday at 618 N. Main St.
The event is part of Paul’s Cure, an effort by friends and family of Paul Gregorio to register potential peripheral blood stem cell donors in hopes of finding a matching HLA tissue type. Gregorio suffers from leukemia, which could be combated if a matching donor is found.
Gregorio’s ancestry is Portuguese and Spanish, and candidates of similar ancestry are more likely to be a match. All candidates who are registered at the event will be checked for potential matches to anyone in need of a donation. Candidates should be between 18 and 44 years old.
