Former Tulare public defender named judge

Steven Gevercer, who worked in the Tulare County Public Defender’s Office from 1985 to 1989, was named to a judgeship in the Madera County Superior Court, Gov. Jerry Brown’s office announced Thursday.

Gevercer, 54, now of Sacramento, has served as a senior assistant attorney general at the Attorney General’s Office, Civil Division, Tort and Condemnation Section since 2011, where he served as supervising deputy attorney general from 2008 to 2011 and deputy attorney general from 2005 to 2008 and from 1989 to 2001. He has been an adjunct professor at Lincoln Law School since 2000 and at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law since 1998.
