A traffic accident involving an unidentified male pedestrian and a dark colored Jeep was reported at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday night in the crosswalk located at Henderson Avenue near Second Street.

The incident happened in front of the PortaVilla Market.

“I was going home in the closest lane to the curb. I had seen someone step on the crosswalk and stopped. I just heard a thump and he flew onto where the clothes are,” said witness Daniella Alcantar of Porterville who called the police.

Alcantar estimates that the driver of the Jeep was traveling at 30 miles per hour. Another witness reported to police that she had performed CPR and the victim’s ribs had cracked.

According to Lieutenant Jake Castellow of the Porterville Police Department the vehicle was heading west bound on Henderson and the pedestrian was heading northbound in the crosswalk when the pedestrian was struck.

Castellow reported that the victim was transported to Sierra View District Hospital and his condition was unknown. However, he did report that the pedestrian suffered injuries.

The Porterville Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the incident. The driver and the passenger of the Jeep were not injured.
