Stolen Motor Vehicle

Officers responded at 6:50 a.m. to the 2300 block of West Roby Avenue to a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim told officers that sometime overnight someone stole his gray 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck while it was parked in front of the residence. The vehicle had been left unsecured with the keys inside.

DUI Traffic Collision

Officers responded at 7:31 a.m. to Olive Avenue and Plano Street to a single-vehicle traffic collision. The driver, David Alvarado, 18, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs. A 16-year-old female passenger was also arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs.

Commercial Burglary

Officers were dispatched at 3:07 p.m. to Kohl’s department store to a report of a theft of a diamond ring. The suspect asked to view the ring in the display and fled on foot after it was handed to him. Soon thereafter a suspect matching the same description was reported to have stolen a phone from Verizon Wireless. The suspect, identified as Damian Gonzalez, 21, was later located in the 2000 block of West Morton Avenue and arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary. He was in possession of the stolen cellular phone but the ring was not located.

Possession of Narcotics for Sale/Possession of Stolen Property

Officers stopped a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Olive Avenue at 7:37 p.m. and contacted the occupants, identified as Manuel Valencia and Jesus Ramos. Ramos was found to be on felony probation and had a felony warrant for his arrest. A search of the vehicle revealed more than a pound of processed marijuana, a scale and stolen property, resulting in additional charges.

Stolen Motor Vehicle/Recovery

Officers responded at 6:13 a.m. to the 1300 block of West Jean Avenue to a report of a stolen motor vehicle. The victim told officers her 1999 Toyota Camry was stolen sometime overnight. The vehicle had been located prior to the report by the victim, and multiple suspects were detained for the theft.

Officers attempted to stop two bicyclists in the 1200 block of West Henderson Avenue for traffic violations at 11:56 p.m. The bicyclists failed to yield but were detained shortly thereafter without incident.

Criminal Threats/Possession of a Loaded Firearm

Officers responded at 11:15 a.m. to a report of persons brandishing a firearm. The victim reported two males in a white car threatened him with the firearm. The suspect vehicle was located at a home in the 1200 block of West Date Avenue by an assisting officer. A probation search of the home was conducted, and the loaded handgun was located. The suspects, Orlando Facio, 26, and David Alvarado, 18, were arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and being in possession of a loaded firearm.

Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

Officers responded at 10:40 p.m. to the 1700 block of West Olive Avenue to a report of a hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred 30 minutes prior. The victim reported he was walking southbound on Porter Road when he was sideswiped by a black SUV. The vehicle did not stop and the victim continued to walk home before calling the police. The victim complained of pain.

Marcus Nieto, 20, was contacted and immediately fled on foot. He was captured after a brief foot chase and arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and trespassing.

Robbery

Officers responded at 11:35 a.m. to the Rite Aid pharmacy at 66 W. Morton Ave. to a report of a combative subject — John Vargas, 21. Vargas allegedly selected items and a bottle of pills then attempted to flee the business, but was contacted by loss prevention personnel. Vargas resisted and fought with the employees, attempting to take the items by force. Officers located Vargas inside the business. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

Officers responded at 7:35 p.m. to Sierra Mini Mart on West Henderson Avenue to a report of an unwanted subject. Marcus Nieto, 20, was contacted and arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. Nieto was unable to care for himself and was booked at the Tulare County Jail.

Felony Warrant

Officers contacted a suspicious subject identified as Justin Henson, 36, in front of the Subway restaurant on Olive Avenue at 11:12 a.m. A warrant check revealed Henson had a felony warrant and three misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. He was arrested and booked at the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department’s Porterville substation.
