PORTERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT


Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Under Influence of Controlled Substance / Parole Violation


Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Morton Avenue and Third Street and contacted driver Paul Lara, 54. Lara is on parole and was found to be under the influence. Parole arrived on scene and issued a violation. He was booked at TCSD Sub-Porterville.

Under Influence of a Controlled Substance


Officers contacted a male subject in the area of 49 N. Hockett identified as Steven Buehler, 33. He was arrested and booked for being under the influence of a controlled substance.



Possession of a Prohibited Firearm / Possession of Methamphetamine / Possession of Ammo by a Felon


Officers responded to Don Vino’s 247 N Main Street in regards to a subject removing stereo speakers from a vehicle. They arrived and contacted Manuel Camacho, 35. During the contact it was determined that he was driving a rental car. Upon search of the car and his person, a quantity of methamphetamine was located along with $10,000 cash, a sawed off shotgun and 6 rounds of .12 gauge shotgun shells.



Injury DUI Traffic Collision


Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of North Main Street regarding an injury Traffic Collision. Officers arrived on scene and located a Jeep that had overturned off the roadway. Officers determined the driver and sole occupant was DUI of alcohol/prescription narcotics and left the west side of the roadway while traveling southbound Main Street. The Jeep collided with a large tree, continued southbound, collided with a second tree, took out a chain link fence and rolled into the grass in front of the Calvary Assembly of God church. The driver, identified as Gregory Covert, 38, had moderate injuries as a result of the collision and was transported by ambulance to Sierra View. A witness had been following Covert since Strathmore advising the Jeep had left the roadway several times prior to the collision.
