Crime Blotter 11/20/12

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Burglary
Officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of North Gary Street regarding a report of residential burglary. The suspects entered through the kitchen window by forcing it open. A 50” television was stolen. Physical evidence was located at the scene and the case remains under investigation.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance,  Resist Arrest by Threats or Violence, Trespassing
Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of South Wisconsin Street regarding a subject trespassing in the yard of the residents. Officers arrived and contacted Paul Nanez , 18 yrs. Paul was extremely under the influence of a controlled substance and became confrontational with officers. He tried to flee as officers were detaining him. After a continuous fight with several officers, an officer deployed the taser that had little to no effect. Nanez was eventually restrained and arrested. He was medically cleared at Sierra View District Hospital.

Robbery / Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Officers were dispatched to Sierra Minit Mart on South Plano Street regarding a beer run that had just occurred. Officers arrived on scene and the clerk reported that two young white male adults arrived at the store and selected beer. The subjects then exited the store without paying for the beer. The store clerk was able to catch one of the suspects on the north side of the business and a struggle ensued. The suspect struck the clerk twice and then began yelling for the second suspect to help him. The second suspect approached the store clerk and threw a 30 pack of beer at his head. The clerk ducked to avoid being struck and the 30 pack hit and damaged the front of a parked car. Both suspects then fled eastbound on Poplar Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.
