Crime Blotter 10/19/12

Information below is provided to The Recorder by the Porterville Police Department. It is noted that only arrests are reported and the suspects have not been found guilty of any crime.

Friday, Oct. 19
Petty Theft
Officers responded to Kohl’s Department Store regarding a Petty Theft that just occurred. Once they arrived, officers contacted Loss Prevention and it was reported that a female subject, later identified as Sheena Gabinete, 29, selected numerous children’s clothing and shoes and left the store without paying for the items. Gabinete was contacted just outside Marshall’s Department Store and was still in possession of the stolen property. Gabinete was arrested and transported to PPD for booking.

Warrant Arrests
During follow-up investigation to a previous theft case, officers contacted Clem Underwood, 29, and Sheldon Griffith, 37, in the 400 block of East Oak Avenue. Both Underwood and Griffith were arrested for their warrants and later booked at the TCSO Porterville Substation. Officers also closed a recent theft case in which Underwood was one of the suspects.

Domestic Violence
Officers responded to the 1400 block of West Tomah Avenue regarding domestic violence. The victim, Shanna Powell, 38, reported that Robert Gardner, 42, struck her with a closed fist in her face while they were arguing. Gardner initially fled the scene; however, officers were able to contact him after he tried to return to the residence. Gardner is on active CDCR Parole and a Parole Warrant was issued. Gardner was arrested and later booked into the TCSO Porterville Substation.

DUI
Officers contacted Jared Carrillo, 24, and Nicholas Carabay, 32, during a traffic stop at Plano Street and Highway 190. Carrillo was determined to be DUI and was taken into custody. Carabay was uncooperative and intoxicated. He was subsequently taken into custody for public intoxication. They were both booked into jail.
