Ruben Macareno was elected Wednesday night by the Tulare County Democratic Central Committee to lead the county’s Democratic Party.

Macareno, a former Los Angeles Times newsroom administrator, states that as chairman he will focus on increasing local Democratic voter registration efforts, recruit, develop and run Democrats for local, state and federal office. “We are off to a good start with recent election wins in Farmersville (city council) and Tulare (Regional Medical Center board),” said Macareno.

He attended the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina as a district delegate for President Barack Obama. In 2010 he ran as a write-in candidate for Congress. He is the former vice-chairman of the Chicano Latino Caucus of the California Democratic Party. He worked for the late Democratic US Representative Edward R. Roybal of Los Angeles and the National Association of Latino Appointed and Elected Officials in Washington DC in the mid 1980s.
