City Council OKs Walmart EIR
After much deliberation and a considerable amount of public input, the Porterville City Council voted 4-0 Tuesday night to move forward with plans to build a super Walmart in Porterville.
The council certified the project’s Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) — a document that has been in the works for nearly four years — paving the way for construction of a new Walmart Supercenter in the Riverwalk Marketplace.
The council chambers were crowded to capacity, as both proponents and opponents of the retail giant’s plans for a new store spoke during the public hearing portion of the council’s regular meeting.
