Classical guitarist Joshua Anderson will present a recital at noon Friday in room CA-2 at Porterville College, 100 E. College Ave.

Anderson is a senior music major at California State University, Fresno. Completing his undergraduate degree in music performance under the direction of Dr. Corey Whitehead, Anderson was featured in November of 2011 at the Fresno Art Museum, sponsored by La Bella String Company.

For the last three years he has been the only guitar player in the university’s scholarship group “Bulldog Beat,” and spent the last two years performing in Fresno State’s Jazz Orchestra. He has also been a part of several musical productions in the last two years, including “Urinetown,” “Assassins,” “Spring Awakening” and “Next to Normal,” where he has played guitar, electric bass, banjo and mandolin.

In May, 2010, Anderson was part of 60-member choir hand-picked to sing at the Save Mart Center for the Star Wars in Concert event, where they performed with their touring orchestra and met Anthony Daniels, the actor who played C-3P0 and host of the concert.

Jointly sponsored by the Porterville College Music Department and Porterville Friends of Music, the recital offers an unusual opportunity to see and hear classical guitar in an intimate setting.

There is no admission charged for the performance, however donations will be accepted to defray Anderson’s expenses.

Parking restrictions at Porterville College will be relaxed for the event.

For more information, call the music department at Porterville College at 791-2255.
