Potential City Council candidates totals 10

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Another Porterville man has pulled papers to run for City Council, bringing the total number of potential candidates to 10.

John Simonich took papers out on Wednesday, and like the nine others, has until 5 p.m. Friday to turn them back and in to officially place their names on the June 8 ballot.

The four-year terms up for election in 2010 are currently held by Mayor Pete McCracken and Felipe Martinez.
The incumbents have declared their intention to run for re-election, as have Shawn Cable, Jesse Carrillo, John Coffee, Rodney Martin, Edward John Patino Jr., Chris Saleh and Greg Shelton.

They are all vying for a shot at governing the city with the authority to levy taxes, pass ordinances and award contracts.

To be eligible for City Council candidacy, a person must be a resident and registered voter in Porterville, and needs to have resided in the city for at least 30 days preceding the filing of the nominating papers, or equivalent declaration or candidacy, and be a registered voter at the time of filing.

For more information on how on how to become a member of the City Council, contact the City Clerk at 782-7464, or stop by City Hall, located at 291 N. Main St.
