Porterville police officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of North “E” Street at 6:15 Thursday to check the welfare of an adult female and her 7-month-old child. It had been reported that they were both being physically abused by the female’s boyfriend, Miguel Rodriguez, 32 of Porterville.

When officers arrived, they observed Rodriguez and the victim retreat into the residence and refused to answer the door. A police K9 was utilized and he was convinced to surrender without incident.

After Rodriguez was detained, the investigation revealed that the female victim had been assaulted by Rodriguez several times over the past few days. During one of the assaults, the victim had been holding their 7-month old baby who was also struck , but not injured.
Rodriguez allegedly had forced the victim to stay in the bedroom and not answer the door.
Rodriguez, who was also found to be on state parole for domestic violence and false imprisonment, was booked at the Tulare County Jail. He is currently being held without bail.
