Local vets to ship care packages

recorder@portervillerecorder.com

The American Legion Riders Chapter 20 of Porterville is gearing up once again to send care packages to service men and women still serving overseas.

The group is asking for the community’s help in providing names and addresses of friends and relatives serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The goal is to have the care packages arrive in time for Christmas. In order for that to occur, the packages must be shipped by Nov. 15.

Those who have a friend or loved one who they would like to see get a box of toiletries, snacks, socks, gloves, books, drinks, DVDs, stationary and Christmas items are asked to call 781-9320 or e-mail us tomhstr@yahoo.com or Ladiesaux20 @yahoo.com.

The American Legion Riders are all local veterans and members of the American Legion Post 20 who enjoy riding motorcycles and  have proudly served their country. They continue to serve the community by providing military honor escorts for fallen soldiers and the Ride for Awareness Poker Run each May to benefit the Optimal Hospice Kids Camp.  This camp is provided for children who have lost a family member due to terminal illness.

They also provide Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets and gifts for local veterans and Hospice families who are facing financial challenges.
