Police arrested 29-year-old Brandon Shoop of Porterville Tuesday for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and making off with her car.

The Porterville Police Department reports that on Oct. 16, officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of West White Chapel Avenue for reports of spousal abuse. There they contacted a woman who reported that her boyfriend, identified as Shoop, assaulted her and took her Oldsmobile without permission.

Police say the victim suffered minor injuries and that efforts to locate Shoop or the car were unsuccessful.

At around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, an officer on patrol located the stolen car parked and unoccupied in the 200 block of North E Street.

Officers observed the car from a distance and saw Shoop enter the car and drive away, the PPD reports. Officers stopped the car and arrested Shoop on suspicion of spousal abuse and car embezzlement, along with an outstanding warrant for drug-related charges.

During a search of the car, officers also located several different calibers of live ammunition, which Shoop is prohibited from possessing because he is a convicted felon.

Shoop was later booked at the Tulare County Jail.
