Man survives drive into canal Tuesday

A Lindsay man who drove his vehicle into a dry canal suffered only minor injuries early New Year’s Day, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The driver, Jose Leao, 19, managed to get himself out of his vehicle which ended up in the canal at 21600 Avenue 144 west of Porterville.
According to Officer Ed Flynn, the car was a 1994 White Acura.
“For unknown reasons he allowed his vehicle to drift off the north edge of the road, up into an embankment and into a dry canal bed,” said Flynn.
Leao was taken to Sierra View District Hospital with minor complaints of injuries.
Flynn said Leao had not been drinking.
