Body found in canal a female

A body found floating in the Friant-Kern canal Monday is that of a female, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.

An autopsy performed Tuesday on the unidentified female revealed little about the cause of her death. The sheriff’s department said it appeared she had been in the canal for an extended period of time, and due to the condition of the remains, all that could be determined was that there were no signs of trauma other than what would be expected under the circumstances.

The body was found after an employee with the Friant Water Authority noticed a figure caught on the buoy line in the canal, near the intersection of Millwod Drive and Avenue 344. The sheriff’s dive and rescue team retrieved the body at noon, roughly two hours after receiving the call.
