COS board seeks Ward 2 applicants
On Monday, the College of the Sequoias Board of Trustees voted unanimously to replace Ward Two trustee Sue Shannon by appointment.
The board had two options: appoint a new member or schedule a special election.
A special election would have required a longer timeline and would have been expensive, starting at $70,000 and expected to have cost much more.
The board voted 3-0 for appointment. Shannon and Ward Three Trustee Earl Mann were not present.
Shannon announced her resignation, effective March 31, at the board’s February meeting.
The Tulare native has been a member of the COS board since January 1999.
She was the first woman elected to the COS board.
Applications from qualified candidates will be accepted until April 8.
The appointment will be made by May 30. The seat will be up for re-election in November.
To be eligible to apply, applicants must be at minimum 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and a resident of Ward Two.
Ward Two stretches from the edge of Tulare to the border of Inyo County in the west, north of Three Rivers and south to the northern boundary of Porterville.
Portions of Strathmore, Lindsay, Exeter, Tulare and Visalia fall within the boundaries of the district.
