Blood drives, fundraiser for Central California Blood Center

Jenny Eller Blood Drive Challenge — March 7 to April 8

Head Fresno State Softball Coach Margie Wright is partnering with the Central California Blood Center to help build a life-saving team.

“On this team, everyone’s a winner because everyone saves a life,” Wright said. “I challenge the community to step-up-to-the-plate, join the donor team, and give blood at the Fresno State Softball - Jenny Eller Blood Drive Challenge.”

The goal is to have more than 1,000 new and returning donors donate.
The collection begins March 7 and runs through April 8.

Donors who visit any of the five Central California Blood Centers, in Fresno, Visalia and Porterville, and mention the ‘Donor Team’, Coach Wright, Jenny Eller or Fresno State softball at the time of donation, will receive a commemorative 2011 softball T-shirt, a discount ticket voucher for a Fresno State softball home game this season, and a variety of special reward coupons from Valley businesses for dining, recreation, entertainment and other services.

The 11th Annual Jenny Eller Blood Drive Challenge honors the memory of Jenny Eller, a softball standout who knew first hand about the need for blood.
The Porterville center is open for blood donations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. They are located at 93 N. Main St.

SVDH Blood Drive — March 18
The employees of Sierra View District Hospital are inviting the community to help save lives at a blood drive that will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 18 in the old lobby of Sierra View District Hospital, 465 W. Putnam Ave.

Donors will receive a variety of discounts from Valley businesses for dining, recreation, entertainment, and services.

Everything a cowgirl needs
in one day — March 19

The Clovis Rodeo Association is inviting cowgirls, or would-be cowgirls, to join them for the fourth Annual Cowgirl U Luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. March 19. Attendees, dressed in western finery, will have the opportunity to meet special guests from the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) and rodeo royalty. They will hear live country music, learn all about Clovis Rodeo from Clovis Rodeo Association Board Members and sample what cowgirls drink — including sarsaparilla, beers and wines, what cowgirls eat — award-winning beef, chili, cowgirl cobbler and cowgirl coffee, and what cowgirls like to wear — a fashion show that will include the finest in Western wear. Live and silent auction items will include Western and non-Western art, entertainment and travel surprises.
Tickets are $100 per person or $1,000 to sponsor a table of 10 and benefits the Central California Blood Center.
For table or single-ticket purchases, call Chris Sorensen at 389-5405.

Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete. Donors must be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old or 16 years old with written parental consent. Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within four hours prior to their donation. Donors can give blood every eight weeks. Photo ID and Social Security Number are required at donor registration.

The Central California Blood Center is the sole provider of blood and blood products for the 31 hospitals in Fresno, Tulare, Madera, Kings and Mariposa Counties and must collect between 5,000 to 6,000 pints of blood a month to meet the needs of our Valley community.
