Community invited to attend free arts picnic

To celebrate the arts in Porterville the first “Dinner & Arts on Main Street” event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Centennial Park. Modeled after an event in Paris the night will consist of packing up a meal, setting up blankets or chairs in the park and enjoying the variety of art performances.  Dress is casual or black tie.  

The night’s entertainment will consist of musical and dance performances and art which will be on display. Dinners from local restaurants will also be available. Performers include the Porterville Unified School District’s Harmonix Orchestra, the Mariachi Academy, Paul San Pietro, Jim Kusserow, Summer Charter Collegiate Academy, Tule River Tribe dancers, and Fil-Am Association.

Paintings, photography, sculptures, and more will also be displayed. Amongst those involved are Imagine Community Art Center, Porterville Art Association, 32 West Gallery, Burford’s Frame & Gallery, Fil-Am Association, and the Porterville Art Walk.

The event is free and reservations are not required. Crave Café & Bakery, Dickey’s BBQ Pit, Don Vino’s Italian Restaurant, The Cellar, Hoagie’s Heroes, MMM Yogurt & Deli, Mom’s U-Bake Pizza & Subs, El Tapatio, and Porter Street BBQ have all signed up to offer take out for the evening. Some of the them will have special “Dinner & Arts on Main Street” pricing. However, organizers recommend ordering in advance if possible. The event is presented with the collaboration of American Association of University Women, Imagine Community Art Center, Porterville Art Association, City of Porterville, and Porterville Chamber of Commerce.
