Porterville Art Walk
First event of its kind in Porterville
Art, music and poetry will be some of the offerings at the first-ever Art Walk which will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at various locations in Porterville. The event is family oriented, free and will feature seven businesses which will display different art exhibits for visitors. Hors d’oeuvres will also be available at some of the locations.
The artists are as follows: Mike Moser at Alley Rats Tattoo; Brian Brumely at Generations Photography Studio; Leo Hernandez at the Law office of David Candelaria; Samantha Hunt at the Law office of Gregory Chambers; Diego Gutierrez Monterrubio at Reflections Hair Salon; and Victor Cervantez at 32 West Gallery. Don Vino’s Italian Kitchen will feature an artist as well.
At 8 p.m. there will be a poetry reading, inaugural speakers and attendees can listen to the sound of jazz all at Don Vino’s.
Organizer Monterrubio, a sculptor and painter from Lindsay, found that Porterville lacked this kind of event.
“There’s a want for it. It kind of baffled me. All it takes is for these venues to stay open three hours,” said Monterrubio who added that in the future the event will be on the first Friday of every month. Each venue can pick their artists or artwork can be submitted online. Artwork will be available for purchase.
