Man arrested in rape, indecent exposure cases
A 23-year-old Strathmore man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and kidnaping stemming from a Feb. 2 rape and a March 16 indecent exposure incident, Porterville Police announced late Friday evening.
Arrested at just after 3:30 p.m. Friday was Jose de Jesus Magana Carrillo. He was taken into custody after police pulled over a vehicle that matched the description given by both victims.
Police said Carrillo also matched the description given by the victims. He was booked into the Tulare County Jail where he is being held in lieu of a $1 million bail.
Carrillo is suspected of giving an 18-year-old female a ride home on Feb. 2, but instead took her against her will to a county area near Plano Street and Reid Avenue where she was sexually assaulted.
He is also accused of exposing himself at about noon on March 16 in the 900 block of North Lime Street. The victim in that incident was a 16-year-old female.
In a press release, police reported that on Feb. 2 officers were contacted by the 18-year-old female who alleged she had been raped.
The female told police she accepted a ride from a stranger near the Porterville Walmart after the subject offered to take her home.
The driver began driving toward the victim’s residence, but soon changed his course and began driving into a county area, refusing to let the victim out of the vehicle. The suspect drove to the area of Plano Street and Reid Avenue and parked his vehicle. The victim jumped out of the vehicle and tried to run away, but the suspect chased the victim into the grove, where he raped her. During the investigation, detectives were only able to get descriptions of the suspect and his vehicle.
On March 16 at about noon, officers were called to the 900 block of North Lime Street for the report of an indecent exposure. The driver of a vehicle lured a 16-year-old female to his window by asking for directions, while at the same time attempting to talk the female into the vehicle.
As the victim got closer to the suspect’s vehicle, he exposed himself to her and sped away.
