Man Alive 2012 rapidly approaching
The date is fast-approaching for the 2012 Man Alive men’s conference in Porterville March 23-24.
This year’s Man Alive will be held March 23-24.
Inspired by the desire of Bob Kroft and the management of Spirit 88.9 F.M. to see communities come together, organizers have added an evening of praise and worship Friday night, called “Man Alive Family Night” because the entire family is invited to attend.
The Friday event will begin at 6 p.m. and feature worship lead by Henry Serrato and the “Man Alive Band” and an introductory presentation by this year’s Man Alive keynote speaker, Steve Farrar. Free hamburgers will be offered to all attendees from 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. courtesy of Freddy’s Juicy Burger of Porterville.
The next morning, Saturday, the third annual “Man Alive” men’s conference will take place and all men and teenage boys are invited to attend.
Both the Friday evening event and the all-day Saturday conference will take place at the Porterville Nazarene Church facility at 2005 West Olive. The planning group for the event consists of representatives from many local Christian churches of various denominations.
This year’s keynote speaker is the founder of Men’s Leadership Ministries, based in Texas, and the author of the best-selling book, “Point man.” Farrar has authored numerous additional books with the specific purpose of equipping men to be who God has called them to be. Among these titles are “Finishing strong”, “King me”, “How to ruin your life by forty” and his latest book, “Battle ready.”
His focus precisely matches that of Man Alive founder and chair, Milt Davis, and the committee he has assembled to facilitate the conferences.
Along with two presentations by Farrar in the main sessions Saturday, about 20 local Pastors and lay leaders will lead break-out sessions in the morning and afternoon. Selected sessions will be presented in Spanish or have Spanish translation available. Light breakfast foods and coffee along with a full lunch will be provided free of charge for all attendees.
Rounding out the events on Saturday is praise and worship in the main sessions. These high energy and moving worship sessions will be lead by Serrato and the “Man Alive Band.”
Serrato and his team of local musicians will lead attendees in worship ranging from familiar hymns of the faith to current, popular praise and worship selections.
The “Man Alive” events are designed to allow all wishing to attend the opportunity regardless of their financial situation. To achieve this, donations toward the event are appreciated and go directly to defray the conference costs each year. The Friday “Family Night” event is free for the entire family and a voluntary offering will be received from those wishing to help sponsor these events. The “Man Alive” conference on Saturday carries a suggested admission of $15 ($5 for 18 and under) and an offering will also be taken in one of the main sessions to help offset the cost of those unable to pay for admission.
The theme for this year’s event, “Now is the Time”, is taken from 2 Corinthians 6:2 “I tell you now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation...”
